- You can now manually create play sessions for albums. Great for tracking your listens to vinyl! Open an album and go to the Actions menu or tap the three-dot menu in Listening History and choose “Add Play Session.”
- You can now change the album a play session is associated with by tapping the album in Session Info.
- Open the date picker in Listening History for new filtering options, like showing only complete or incomplete listens, as well as sessions imported from last.fm

- Stop me if you’ve heard this one before — music played in Albums again now shows in the Recently Played section of the built-in Music App for users on iOS 17.1 or later.
- Tap the name of the collection you’re viewing on the Collections tab for a menu of more options. The “Edit Dock” button and the ability to collapse/expand the dock have been moved to this menu.
- Albums now collects anonymized analytics about app usage and settings configuration. If you would like to disable this analytics collection, you can do so in Settings -> Advanced.

Features:
- Play controls in the Now Playing widget! We truly live in a golden age of computing. The Now Playing Info widget has been redesigned from the ground up to feel more in line with the Now Playing screen in the main app.
- The Collection widget now includes a Play button to start playing that collection. Long-press the widget on your home screen to set whether tapping an album in the widget should open it in the app or play it.
- Albums is now much more automatable, with new Shortcuts actions for tagging, starting queues, and toggling in-app settings. Collections, albums, listening history sessions, and Release Feed entries are now queryable from the Shortcuts app so you can build the automations of your dreams! Head to Settings -> Siri & Automation for details and some prebuilt Shortcuts
- Several screens throughout the app have gotten some design touch-ups, including Listening History and the album detail page. iPad users will enjoy navigation behavior more befitting of a nice, big screen.
- You can now add selected tracks from an album to your queue from the play menu on the album detail page.

Features:
- Wish you could see your individual song ratings in an album’s tracklist? Wish granted! There’s a new button to the top right of the tracklist that lets you display the track’s duration, its play count, your rating, or a menu of additional actions.
- Albums can now notify you of new releases in the Release Feed, as well as when a new Listening Report is available. Configure your notification settings in Settings -> Notifications.
- Listening Reports now show comparisons to the previous report for the top-line stats. Tap the settings icon at the top of a report to disable them if they're not your vibe.
- The collection “List View” layout has been redesigned, and now offers swipe actions to quickly tag, play, or queue an album.
- There is a new Setting on the Settings tab to choose whether you want the Miniplayer skip button to skip songs or albums
- There is a new Play button in the quick collection context menu
- A new filter option “Has Hidden Tracks” so you can easily find albums that… have… hidden….. tracks.

Features:
- Show off your superior music taste! Tap the share icon in any Listening Report or on the Statistics screen to customize and export a grid of your top albums.
- You know how sometimes you just want to listen to the original album but you can only find the Super Deluxe eight-disc remaster? An album's tracklist will now display the above icon if there are other versions of it on the Apple Music catalog.
- Sync your likes between last.fm and Apple Music as you listen. If Albums finds you've liked the current song on one service but not the other, it will add the like on the other service. Enable this in Settings -> last.fm
- If you always want to view a particular Quick Collection a certain way (in List View, for example), you can now edit your Quick Collections and set default display modes.
- You can now customize Duration collections in Library -> Durations. Chop up your library into 5-minute intervals. Who's gonna stop you?

- Speaking of the iPad, this update brings much-improved support for resizing the app in Stage Manager, split-view and slideover. Various screens throughout the app now resize gracefully, as opposed to catastrophically
- A couple of new buttons in CarPlay! The “Albums" tab now has a button to resume the current album, and the "Collections" tab now has a button to view the current queue.
- You can now sort collections by Composer. I was as surprised as you to learn this wasn’t already possible!
- The people have spoken! There is a new setting on the Settings tab to restore the pre-5.0 behavior of automatically launching Now Playing screen when starting a new queue.

- You can now use multi-select when building filters! If you want to filter a collection down to albums from several different genres, you can now build one genre filter that uses multi-select rather than making a separate filter for each genre.
- You can also now use multi-select when modifying your Artist and Record Label subscriptions in the Release Feed.
- Apple Music album search is now paginated, so you can load a new set of results if you haven’t found what you’re looking for.
